just for the sake of argument

If Protestantism is true, then the Catholic Church has continually invented false, man-made doctrines, in which no Christian should have to believe, and has done so for centuries. Yet Protestants agree with the Church’s decisions on the fundamental doctrines about the nature of God and the New Testament canon of Scripture. On these matters—settled centuries after Christ died and rose—Protestants accede willingly and make no claim that they were novelties. So what criteria do Protestants use to determine which decisions of the Church had divine origin and which were man-made?

  1. for the sake of argument?

    who wants to argue?

let us rather spur each other on to good works
let us aspire to see and to honor Christ in each other
let us rejoice with those who rejoice
and mourn with those who mourn
let us outdo one another in showing honor to each other

    i honor and respect
your fervor for a good intellectual argument
and your interest, to the extent that it is genuine,
    in understanding the protestant perspective
i hope you can find a worthy interlocutor

i just can't be the one to argue with you
for it pulls me away from the knowledge of
    the largesse of God's love

Devin Rose makes a valid and well known point
However, judging from the number of protestant Christians
who nonetheless find their faith meaningful,
apparently having a logically consistent foundation
    is not the only consideration
and perhaps not even the most important consideration
    in what makes faith meaningful

I am not denying that there are some out there
who could make a logical defense of the protestant perspective to Mr. Rose
    I'm sure Stu could
In fact I would love to hear Stu address this

I suspect that every religion and every branch of Christianity has weaknesses and inconsistencies within it
I am more interested in facilitating people's quest
to find God (or to be found by him)
    in whatever way they can
than in trying to convince them that their way is wrong
or putting them in a position
where they feel like it is more important
to defend their way of seeking God
    than to follow it

but thinking logically is important too
    so more power to you!
may God grant you clarity of mind
and security of faith in your own way of seeking God
    along with a generous heart
toward those who see things differently from you

  2. I want to revive a new catholic apologetics

    thus
    I'm exploring the various possibilities
    of constructive catholic anger

    as long as there's protest
    there's argument

I would like to resolve it all however
with a large level field confrontation
everyone using nerf bats and pillows

    :)

  3. OK maybe there would need to be a large group
    of therapists on the sidelines
to deal with emotional fall-out :)

  4. Amen to the therapists

... or we could forego the violence in the first place

    blessed are the meek

  5. I don't think it's possible to just talk away the misunderstandings and mutual suspicions....do you?

I think we need to be honest about our anger
that's what all the therapists say

and either it's going to be scream therapy
    or feather pillow warfare
( not to last more than an hour at a time :)
